Job Description
Position Summary:
The Youth Director is tasked with creating and implementing a comprehensive Faith Formation and Youth Ministry program for middle and high school students that is in keeping with the vision and pastoral plan of the Pastor.
Key responsibilities: (day-to-day job functions)
- Oversee all middle and high school sacramental preparation.
- Plan and coordinate all activities and events necessary for Confirmation Mass with appropriate staff and volunteers.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and select curriculum in concert with the pastor for a dynamic Faith Formation program.
- Recruit, train, and support an adequate pool of volunteers for middle and high school formation.
- Coordinate with the Director of Religious Education to ensure youth volunteers are Safe Environment compliant.
- Organize regular social/seasonal/special events with youth.
- Coordinate service opportunities for confirmation candidates.
- Lead, recruit, and train a youth leadership team.
- Ensures accurate record keeping for sacramental books (middle and high school youth only)
- Communicate with parents and staff on a regular basis.
- Propose, monitor, and adhere to the parish youth programs/confirmation budget.
- Work with appropriate staff to reserve facilities for youth formation events.
- Coordinate and oversee implementation of weekly Fraternus/Fidelis meetings.
- Conducts retreats for confirmation candidates.
- Attends bimonthly staff meetings to communicate youth activities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum level of Education: Bachelor's degree in Pastoral/Youth Ministry, Education, Theology, Psychology, Religious Education, Social Work, or the equivalent.
- Minimum years of work experience: 5 years
- Area(s) of related work experience: Previous experience working with youth.
Additional qualifications/requirements:
- Active member, in good standing, of the Roman Catholic Church
- Must have appropriate self-knowledge and ability to share the Catholic faith with young people.
- Must have paraprofessional helping/counseling skills, one-to-one listening skills, crisis intervention, and referral skills.
- Must have group processing and facilitation skills.
- Must have organizational skills: time management, delegation, long-range planning, financial management, and budgeting.
- Knowledge of adolescent spiritual and personal development, youth culture, and sociology.
- Must have the ability to work with a variety of ages, personalities, and backgrounds.
- Employment is contingent upon the applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks
- Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: (if applicable)
- Experience in teaching.
- Training in counseling and referrals.
- Training through a Youth Ministry Certification Program.
- Bilingual is a plus, though not required.
