Job Summary: Assist the physician’s Surgery Counselor by preparing surgery charts, obtaining medical clearances, returning and making reminder phone calls, and providing coverage during absences or periods of high volume. Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with established guidelines and deadlines for each surgical location.

Certification/Licensures: None required
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of medical office experience and general knowledge of insurance
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Primary Job Duties and Accountabilities: - Perform clerical functions of surgery scheduling to support Surgery Counselor
- Verify patient information
- Complete required forms and photos for surgery chart
- Task insurance authorization request
- Fax forms to providers and facilities within established guidelines
- Make pre-op reminder phone calls
- Collect out-of-pocket amounts due
- Initiate medical clearance paperwork and follow-up that clearance is received timely
- Accurately enter information into schedule template
- Schedule pre-op appointments
- Perform surgery scheduling/counseling function in the absence of the Surgery Counselor
- Assist during times of high volume. Be versed in all information patients need to be scheduled for surgery
- As needed, perform front desk check-in/check-out functions, schedule appointments, collect payments, answer phones, scan documents, download photos, and verify patient insurance coverage
- Ensure the lobby and hospitality area are clean and well stocked. Open and close office each day

Qualifications and Skills:
- Basic keyboarding and knowledge of practice management
- Must be able to type 20 wpm
- Must obtain Nextgen or other similar medical office software
