JOB DESCRIPTION:

US Cannalytics , a multi-state cannabis testing laboratory with locations in Pennsylvania, Florida, New Jersey, Michigan, and Maryland is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Microbiology Laboratory Technician at our Maryland facility.

MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORY TECHNICIAN   QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • 21+ years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • BS in a natural science (preferred)
  • 1 year of relevant professional (non-academic) laboratory experience (required)
  • 1 year of experience in a cannabis testing lab (preferred)
  • 1 year of experience with growth plate and/or qPCR (preferred)
  • Ability to proficiently utilize Microsoft Word and Excel, and other laboratory information management systems.

MICROBIOLOGY   LABORATORY TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The micro lab technician is responsible and accountable for the testing, quality control, and tracking of cannabis samples for microbiological assays – TAMC, TYMC, Total Coliforms, E.coli, Salmonella, STEC, and L. monocytogenes – utilizing traditional growth plate techniques and qPCR. Additionally, this position will focus on testing fresh tissue samples for plant pathogens utilizing qPCR technology.
  • Ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely testing of cannabis products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assists with the performance of sample intake and accessioning, and non-analytical test methods (foreign material, water activity, moisture content, etc.), as needed
  • Sample collection, intake and homogeneity
  • Sample preparation across all applicable matrices
  • Reagent preparation, including safe handling, storage and disposal
  • Sample loading and initial data analysis performed under the technical supervision of a Laboratory Microbiologist
  • Daily performance checks of applicable analytical equipment and method test parameters
  • Regular instrument cleaning and preventative maintenance for applicable analytical equipment
  • Basic troubleshooting of testing methodologies 
  • Independently prepare samples using aseptic techniques, including compliant documentation and necessary updates to laboratory workflow.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Follow organizational policies and procedures for laboratory operations and comply with all state-specified rules and regulations for cannabis licenses, cannabis transport and cannabis testing, as applicable.
  • Accurately measure and document cannabis and cannabis materials, including sample weights/volumes
  • Perform compliant cannabis tracking and destruction, including completion of supporting laboratory documentation
  • Work in a timely manner, while striving to improve quality and maintain accuracy during all laboratory activities.
  • Adhere to Good Documentation Practices (GDP) for the completion of laboratory logs, forms, worksheets, or other documentation.
  • Maintain laboratory reagent and supply inventory, including compliant documentation.
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned by Management, which may include cannabis sampling and transport.

  • The environment is dynamic and fast-paced, often requiring frequent multitasking, quick pivots, and the ability to reprioritize tasks based on urgency and operational demands.
  • Employees may be exposed to airborne particles, fumes, mechanical equipment, and vibrations during the course of their work.
  • Noise levels in the laboratory may be high at times.
  • In compliance with state regulations for this industry, the facility is secured with user-specific access controls and monitored by surveillance cameras throughout the laboratory, excluding restrooms.

WORK HOURS:

  • Sunday – Wednesday (training and competency determined on a Monday-Friday schedule)
