LEGACY EARLY COLLEGE OVERVIEW

Legacy Early College is a K4-12 public charter school that originated through the vision of businessman William Brown in 2009 with an unwavering focus on To and Through College at every grade level. Legacys model combines academics, nutrition, physical fitness, and mental health. In addition to our college-driven academic standards, meals are made on site, scholars participate in PE every day, and Social-Emotional Literacy is integrated into the culture and curriculum. POSITION OVERVIEW

Legacy Early College (Legacy) seeks an exceptional High School Social Studies Teacher for our 9th 12th grade scholars. The teacher is responsible for delivering effective, high-quality, rigorous instruction in their content areas that produce unmatched results and student understanding. The candidate must be able to create and maintain a climate that promotes knowledge, skills, and character traits needed to succeed through college and beyond. This position reports to the School Principal.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the scholars Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of the scholars Prepare lessons that reflect best practices and accommodations for individual differences of scholars Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor Encourage scholars to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with best practices, specific content knowledge, the physical limitations of the space provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or scholar groups involved. Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the schools philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives Assess scholar learning, through observations, authentic performance, and more formal methods, in an ongoing manner, providing frequent scholar feedback, information to parents and written progress reports Utilize diagnostic assessment tools to identify learning strengths and needs of every scholar, on a regular basis, for the purpose of intervention and/or acceleration toward academic and leadership standards Take necessary and reasonable precautions to assure safety in the classroom and the school for all scholars Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulations Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing scholar life and conduct Maintain and improve professional competence Establish and maintain open lines of communication with scholars, parents, and community members Perform other job-related duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelors degree, requiredSouth Carolina teaching certificate, preferredSpanish speaking ability, preferredStrong organization and project management skillsSuperb written and oral communication skillsExceptional attention to detail and follow-throughK-12 teaching experience highly, preferred Work Schedule Teachers will operate on the Legacy Early College academic calendar, on the 195-day schedule. A typical week during normal school hours is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Compensation & Benefits Compensation packages are competitive, including PEBA insurance plans. Physical Demands The physical demands characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Long periods of standing and sitting and having the ability to lift items up to 25lbs. is required. Requires normal/corrected vision and hearing. Periodic participation in activities to support Legacy Early College is required. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Position will have periods of extended work week hours, which is required to support both the ongoing development of the region and the delivery of high-quality education for all scholars.
