ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

  • Pay Considerations – The starting hourly pay for this position is $30.82. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
  • Work Schedule - This position is scheduled to work four days per week, totaling a 40-hour work week.
  • Environment –
    • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
    • The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
    • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, walking, and working on slippery and uneven surfaces.
    • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

THE ROLE
Under general supervision of the Fire Chief or designee, performs a variety of tasks including inspecting buildings and property to enforce adopted local and state fire prevention codes and related ordinances; performs final functional tests and inspections on fire protection systems and equipment; advise, educate, and instruct the general public in proper fire and life safety methods and practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED certificate; and
  • One (1) year of work experience in one or more of the following fields: Plans review (Examination); Structural inspection; Life safety systems design, installation or inspection; Architecture; Engineering;
  • Or, one (1) year of work experience that required the frequent interpretation, explanation or enforcement of codes, regulations or formal written standard operating procedures, to include frequent heavy public contact in an enforcement capacity;
  • Or, successful completion of 30 semester credit hours of fire science core courses;
  • Or, two (2) years as a full-time uniformed employee of a public or private fire department;
  • Or, five (5) years as a documented part-time or volunteer uniformed member of a fire department.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license on the date of application and maintenance thereafter.
  • Possession of current certification from the International Code Council as Fire Inspector I at time of application.
  • International Code Council Fire Inspector II will be required within nine (9) months of hire and maintenance thereafter for the duration of employment.
  • Nevada State Fire Marshal Hazardous Materials Awareness Certification is required within twelve (12) months of date of hire and maintained thereafter.
  • Nevada State Fire Marshal as Fire Inspector I and Fire Inspector II will be required within twelve (12)months of hire and maintained thereafter. Possession and maintenance of current certification from National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) as Fire Inspector I and II will be accepted in lieu of NSFM’s certifications for Fire Inspector I and II and this certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • Shall obtain the following National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications; ICS 100, ICS200, ICS 700, and ICS 800 within 12 months of the date of appointment.

SELECTION PROCESS

  • The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process.
  • Oral Board Interview (Weighted 100%, Passing Score 70%).

  • Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history check via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening.
