Business Office Assistant I Location Norman, OK : J.D. McCarty Center is looking for a Business Office Assistant who will assist in the coordination of verification of eligibility, authorizations, and credentialing. Provide administrative support in ensuring the confidentiality, accuracy, and maintenance of patient receivables and hospital staff credentialing. Must have excellent communication, grammar, and strong phone etiquette skills. Candidate should be detailed driven and flexible. Must have computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. Working knowledge of insurance process is preferred.
Salary: $18.27 per hour Responsibilities: - Utilizes department outpatient schedule to verify scheduled patients' eligibility daily. Inform supervisor of any problems, questions, or concerns of patient's eligibility.
- Utilizes department inpatient schedule to verify currently scheduled inpatients' eligibility daily. Inform supervisor of any problems, questions, or concerns of patient's eligibility.
- Checks patients in for a variety of services to include in-patient, screenings, and outpatient therapies. Verifies information in the Electronic Health Record system to ensure correctness. Updates any patient information needed in the EHR.
- When checking in out-patients, verifies the ordering physician's number is entered in the correct field for patient billing.
- Collect co-payments from parents/guardians when needed. Prepares receipt for parent/guarding and submits receipts to the Business Office Accounting Technician for posting to patient accounts. Contact the supervisor when issues occur.
- Upon checking in for out-patients and screenings, data enters date, time, physician, visit code, etc.
- Upon checking in for in-patients, verifies patient nurse base information, date, time, physician, visit code, diagnosis, etc. Notifies supervisor when information is not accurate.
- Maintains the excel spreadsheet for physicians' numbers and phone extensions when notified with changes. Ensures information remains confidential and for department use only.
- Under guidance of Administrative Assistant II, receives a patient list to obtain authorizations prior to scheduled appointments. Notifies Administrative Assistant II for assistance when questions or issues arise. Upon completion of assigned patients, returns completed information to Administrative Assistant II for final processing.
- Under guidance of Administrative Assistant II, receives a patient list to contact patient's primary care physician to receive orders and clinical notes as assigned and necessary. Notifies Administrative Assistant II for assistance when questions or issues arise. Upon completion of assigned patients, returns completed information to Administrative Assistant II for final processing.
- Under guidance of Administrative Assistant II, receives a patient list to contact patient's insurance company to verify eligibility and benefits for services. Notifies Administrative Assistant II for assistance when questions or issues arise. Upon completion of assigned patients, returns completed information to Administrative Assistant II for final processing.
- Upon receipt from the Business Manager, scans and renames EOBs for secondary filing as needed. Notifies Business Manager upon completion for final processing.
- Participate in the maintenance of hospital doctors, therapist and other support personnel's credentialing records to include filing licensures, contracts, and credentialing records.
- Maintains working knowledge of insurance plans, hospital procedures, rules, and regulations for the Business Office.
- Performs as the primary back-up for the Administrative Technician during periods of unavailability. Will assist in the coverage of Administrative Assistant II during periods of unavailability.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements: - High school diploma or equivalent is required
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Computer skills
- Will serve a 1-year probationary period

About J.D. McCarty Center: J.D. McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age. We are a unique 36 bed hospital. Patient are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services, social services, psychological services, behavioral analysis, and recreational therapy. Our 80-acres campus includes a on-site elementary, intermediate, and high school which is staffed by Norman Public School teachers. Patients may continue treatment needs beyond the 30-days as an in-patient in habilitation status based upon progress or placement needs.
