WTTG/WDCA – Assignment Editor (Regular Full-Time)

Candidates must have an advanced ability to organize and prioritize time sensitive media content.

Job Highlights:
Generate story leads and respond to breaking news for broadcast and digital.
Proactively gather and communicate news content to use in newscasts and on digital platforms.
Organize logistics and track details for stories and crews.
Coordinate daily assignments of news coverage and special events assignments.
Develop contacts and sources to advance stories beyond a press release.
Monitor police and fire scanners and other sources of breaking news.
Maintain contact with law enforcement, fire, government agencies and other key community partners for up-to-date information and story leads.
Handle high volume email and phone traffic.
Think critically under pressure and work professionally with colleagues and community partners.
Daily collaboration with reporters/anchors, photographers, production teams, management, and other staff members.
Participate in editorial, department and station meetings.
Other duties as assigned.
What You’re Bringing:
Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree, preferred focus in Communications, Journalism, or related field with a minimum of two years of experience as an Assignment Editor in a medium to large television market. Knowledge of ethical and journalist legal parameters for mass media. Exceptional knowledge of television news production and electronic and social media newsgathering. Experience with newsroom computer systems, including iNews.
Skills: Superior communication and interpersonal skills. Solid news and editorial judgment. Social media expert. Strong sense of urgency. Extremely self-reliant, organized, creative, and detail oriented.
Professionalism: Ability to take direction and work under deadline pressure, consistently displaying a professional demeanor. Positive and supportive newsroom citizen.

FOX 5 DC / FOX 5 Plus is a 24/7 operation. Flexibility in scheduling is essential, including evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays. Candidates will also be required to join the SAG-AFTRA Washington-Mid Atlantic Local union for the off-air news unit.
